Wow... This Guy Is Having A Good Effect

I was just listening to my local PBS show after the confirmation speech and they have two women on there, one a lib "He isn't on the side of female reproduction rights" and a conservative.

The lib started talking about Roberts "Lack of a paper trail" and the conservative lady said something that shocked me, she said (to the other lady!) that she only would have been satisfied with a canidate that agreed with her and that she shouldn't use a litmus test about a Supreme Court nominee!

Amazing, this is the first time I've heard a lib on TV getting smacked down!

If this is the new conservative then yes! Its about time!

How I understand it form the constitution is that a supreme court justices is suppose to be able to make legislative decision that he gain while being in the courts for many years.

Nope, thats not what the Supreme Court is supposed to do.

All they do is say "Yes, this is Constitutional" or "No, this isn't Constitutional".

He or she isn't supposed to decide whether or not something would make good law, they are supposed to say if the law is Constitutional (good) or if it is unConstitutional (bad).

Thats it, thats all. Thats their only power, their only job. To judge whether or not something is in line with the Constitution.

Now a days (Reagan years to now) the justices have been elected not for the knowledge of the law but there convictions, which I think under minds out forefathers.

In some cases, yes. And it is a shame, but that is a side effect of the fact that this country has different political identities. They clash some times and it spills over to many different arenas. Unfortanily, one of those arenas include the Supreme Court.

It's simple, this guy was not selected for his experience or anything of the sort, he was selected because his young and his convictions are that of the religious right.

Um... duh.

Any right wing politican will live and die on abortion. You can not be a high profile Republican and be anything but pro life.
